Volkswagen is recalling 410,000 Passats from 1999 to 2005 for three possible safety issues.
Vehicles equipped with an auto transmission may have a heat shield that can become damaged, come in contact with the exhaust system, and become a risk. The heat shield will be inspected and an additional one installed.
Some vehicles equipped with the 1.8T four-cylinder engine have a fuel line that requires inspection and possible replacement.
And, finally, 4Motion all-wheel-drive vehicles will be inspected for damage to a fuel-tank ventilation valve.
VW will begin notifying owners of the recall, which is voluntary and does not affect diesel Passats, on May 30.
Volkswagen advises owners to go to their dealership or a qualified garage if they smell fuel.
No accidents or injuries have been reported.
