As could have been predicted, Volkswagen Of America announced this week that the Rabbit is — once again and most likely for good — dead and the Golf nameplate will adorn the company's iconic hatchback when it debuts at the New York auto show next week.
This follows the same move north of the border, in Canada, reported by VolksWatch in February (Golf Stages Comeback In Toronto).
The 2010 Golf will arrive in showrooms later this year in two- and four-door hatchback body styles, powered by a 170-horsepower 2.5-
liter five-cylinder. A Golf wagon will replace the Jetta SportWagen. Both hatch and wagon will have a 140-horse TDI diesel option.
Almost exactly three years ago, VW ditched Golf for Rabbit (Golf Gone, Rabbit Returns).
