The countdown is on. All systems are go. The GTI is ready to launch.
VW's new sixth-generation GTI goes on sale in Europe this week. In preparation, new photos have been released (follow the link below).
This new GTI has 10 horsepower more than before (for a total 210), is 8.8-percent more fuel efficient, accelerates to 62 MPH (100 KPH) in 6.9 seconds, and has a top speed of 150 MPH (240 KPH).
The chassis was lowered and tweaked for spirited driving, and includes a standard electronic limited-slip differential — a first for a VW — and optional Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) with three settings (normal, comfort and sport).
Engineers tuned the dual exhaust pipes to sound sporty and exhilarating, even employing a sound generator, but were careful not to make it too loud and annoying.
North Americans must wait until late summer for their GTIs.
