As its German rivals beef up their diesel portfolios, so too does Volkswagen — the Touareg SUV will soon have a V6 TDI option.
VW chose Detroit's 2009 North American International Auto Show to announce the news.
The turbocharged V6 features the carmaker's Clean Diesel technologies and generates a decent 225 horsepower and whopping 406 pound-feet of torque, the latter at just 1,750 RPM.
Mileage is rated at 18 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway, 25 percent and better than the gas V6 Touareg's 14 and 20, respectively.
Also announced at the auto show was a Lux Limited edition for not only the diesel Touareg but also V6 and V8 gas models. Exclusive features include two-tone leather and big 20-inch alloy wheels (see photos below). Only 1,940 Lux Limiteds will be produced.
