Bye Bye TDI — Diesel To Take Year Off June 3, 2006  For the 2007 model year, the Jetta, New Beetle and new Rabbit will not be available with Volkswagen's fuel-sipping TDI diesel. New American emissions laws will take effect this fall and VW will not have a compliant TDI ready. In response, VW is believed to be stockpiling 2006 Jetta and New Beetle diesels to satisfy demand after the laws take place and to minimize the engine's absence. A retooled TDI is expected for the 2008 Jetta. In the face of rising fuel prices, diesel has become a popular alternative to gas power.
