Eos Convertible Starts Production Today

The birthplace of the Eos — Volkswagen's Autoeuropa plant in Portugal
VW's hard-top convertible is to start production today, coming ever closer to reality.
The first Eos models are to roll off the assembly line at the carmaker's Autoeuropa plant in Portugal. They will reach European customers in May with the North American market launch set for late summer.
Two problems threatened to delay the Eos — a wind-noise problem that was solved with a new coating for the roof's seals, and a production-line problem that was also solved.
The Eos, the world's first hard-top convertible that incorporates a sunroof, is an important vehicle for Volkswagen in the USA. Of Autoeuropa's 45,000 annual output, 30 percent is destined for America and 60 percent for Europe.
